Morgon

The tiny appellation of Morgon has long been famous for the quality of its wine, and contains some of the finest terroir in the region. It is an ancient place, the Romans planted vines here, taking advantage of the structure and minerality drawn from the crumbling granitic schist. Morgon is known as a wine which reaches its best with ageing, and this quality gave rise to the French verb to “morgonner”, the capacity to age.

The heart of the appellation is the famed and sought-after Côte du Py a small old volcano which millions of years ago drew up to the surface rocks and minerals not seen elsewhere. The colour of the rock on the Côte du Py is blue, whereas the predominant colour nearby is pink, demonstrating in a very physical way the great difference of terroir over very small distances.
